The MicroWorlds Web Player

What is it?

The projects that you create using MicroWorlds 2, Pro and MicroWorlds EX (Macintosh and Windows, with and without the robotics extension) can be saved in a "special way" so they can be visualized, locally or on the Web, using an Internet browser.

The MicroWorlds Web Player allows you to view MicroWorlds projects inside the most popular Internet browsers, whether or not you own a copy of MicroWorlds. You need the MicroWorlds Web Player if:

You do not own a copy of MicroWorlds and you would like to look at some MicroWorlds projects that have been posted on the Web by MicroWorlds users;
You own a copy of MicroWorlds, you are creating projects to be posted on the Web and you would like to test them before posting them.

Macintosh

There are two Web Players for the Macintosh platform: one for Mac OS 8.5 to 9.2 and one for Safari on OS X.

The Web Player for Mac OS 8.5 to 9.2 can be used to view Web projects created using MicroWorlds 2 or Pro for Macintosh or Windows in several languages, but not those created using MicroWorlds EX.

Use the Web Player for Safari on Mac OS X to view Web projects created using MicroWorlds 2, Pro and EX for Macintosh and Windows, in several languages. You can also use it to view projects created using MicroWorlds JR for Mac OS X.

Windows

On the Windows platform, there is one Web Player that plays projects created using MicroWorlds 2 or Pro and one Web Player that plays projects created using MicroWorlds EX. You should install both Players.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter web pages with MicroWorlds projects that show but do not function well, the problem is probably with the design of the project itself. If some MicroWorlds projects do not show at all on the web pages you are looking at, you should read our Troubleshooting page.

Case Study

"At Immanuel Lutheran School we use MicroWorlds starting in second grade and all the way through eighth grade. In our lab we display some of the MicroWorlds projects that students do year after year, for example in sixth grade every year the students create a polygon project, the end result of which is a drawing of something created entirely out of polygons which were all programmed with one polygon routine with three variables - for turn angle, size, and number of sides. The drawings are very impressive and excite the younger students, so one year we added an angle project in fifth grade. Then a couple of years ago the fourth graders asked when they got to do something cool like that, so we created another angle project for them!"
