MicroWorlds Pro for Macintosh

If you have any questions that are not answered here, you can always call us at (800) 321-5646 / (514) 939-8700 ext.110, or, better yet, e-mail us at support@lcsi.ca.

Q. What do I have to do so that my Macintosh MicroWorlds Pro files run under the Windows version of MicroWorlds Pro?

A. Simply add a .mw2 (for MicroWorlds Pro files) or a .mwz (if you saved as a MicroWorlds Pro Compressed file) extension to your project's filename.

Q. My projects icons appear to be "blank" and are not recognized by MicroWorlds Pro?

A. Often Macintosh files that are e-mailed or transferred over a network lose their file types (type- and creator-codes) . These codes are necessary for Mac OS to associate files with the proper application. One way to avoid the problem is to Zip or Stuff the projects before transferring them. Many applications such as FileTypeŽ will easily correct any MicroWorlds Pro projects that have lost their file types. MicroWorlds Pro projects (.mw2) use the following codes, Creator: MWP1 Type: PRJ4 (codes are case sensitive) or Creator: MWP1 Type: PRJZ for compressed (.mwz) MicroWorlds Pro projects.

Q. What permissions are required to save a MicroWorlds Pro project to a folder on the server or a locked-down workstation?

A. The students will need Read, Write, and Delete access, at a minimum, to be able to successfully save to a folder. We recommend full access.

Q. Can I drag and drop media files directly into my MicroWorlds Pro project?

A. Yes. You can import media (images, music, sound and video) files into your project by dragging and dropping them onto your MicroWorlds Pro work area.

Q. I created a graphic in a drawing program. Can I use it as a shape in MicroWorlds Pro?

A. Yes. select and copy your graphic then select (click once) one of the empty dots found in the MicroWorlds Pro Shapes center and choose Paste from the Edit menu.

Q. Is there a Native OS X version of MicroWorlds Pro available?

A. No, however we do have a native OS X version of MicroWorlds EX which has all of the capabilities found in MicroWorlds Pro and offers many new features.

Q. MicroWorlds Pro keeps quitting and I can't play any sound when I run it under OS X's Classic mode.

A. The Macintosh version of MicroWorlds Pro is not supported under OS X's Classic mode. However, we do have a new version of MicroWorlds Pro available that has improved performance running under OS X's Classic Mode. It is available to any registered Macintosh MicroWorlds Pro owners and can be requested by sending an e-mail to the following address: support@lcsi.ca Be sure to include the name and address of the registered site. As soon as the registration is confirmed the application will then be sent as an e-mail attachment in .sit format along with its installation instructions.

Requirements:

Macintosh OS X (10.1 or higher). .
QuickTime 6 or higher (OS 9 version).

Q. MicroWorlds Pro will not play my MP3 files.

A. Make sure that you have QuickTime 4.0 or higher installed on your Macintosh.

Q. When I create HTML templates of my projects and post them online PC IE 5.5 (with SP2) or IE 6 users cannot view them.

A. If you are using version 1.07 or lower you will have to update your copy of MicroWorlds Pro by visiting the following link: http://www.microworlds.com/webplayer/activex.html

Q. It takes a long time to load or save MicroWorlds Pro projects to or from a server.

A. Saving your projects to the server as compressed projects will save you time.

Q. MicroWorlds Pro keeps freezing up on me.

A. Make sure you have enough available (30000kb) memory. You may have to close some applications to free up some memory or use Virtual Memory.

Q. I have posted my project online and the music and sounds are no longer working.

A. Be sure to only use lower case letters for the music and sound file names and extensions.

Q. My question isn't answered here. Where else can I find help?
