CRICKET
Why use MicroWorlds EX Robotics instead of the Cricket Logo?
- Students can do more than just robotics. They can create
simulations or interactive multimedia presentations that trigger their
robotic device to start. For instance, students can create a
chronometric device that acts as a "starter signal" and a stopwatch.
They can use it to test their reflexes (how much time does it take them
to press the switch when they hear the signal?) or as a racing device
(they start the race at the signal and they race to press the switch).
The Cricket has its own internal timer. They can graph the results
onscreen as they gather their data.
- It can be used in any area of the curriculum: math, history, science, geography and language arts.
With MicroWorlds EX Robotics, students design and build robotic devices plus onscreen projects while applying many
curricular concepts in an authentic problem-solving
activity. These projects are both hands-on and "minds-on", as students
set goals, test hypotheses, and reflect on the questions that arise as
they build computer-controlled inventions.<
What is a Cricket?
Crickets are tiny mobile computers that fit in the palm of your
hand. They can be programmed using MicroWorlds EX Robotics. Crickets allow the user
to control motors, lights, and receive information from sensors, such as
touch sensors and light sensors.
Projects can be built from FOUND MATERIALS, a process that:
- stimulates lively discussions and creative thinking.
- provides valuable opportunities for students to generate their own questions and seek the answers.
With MicroWorlds EX, students write programs and commands on
the computer and then transfer these programs to the Cricket via the Interface Cricket.
