Privacy Statement

Introduction

LCSI cares about protecting your online and offline privacy. LCSI is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. We will not sell, share, disclose or rent any of your personal information to third parties or others in ways different from what is disclosed in this statement. We only collect information from our purchasers during the purchase and registration process. We encourage you to read our Childrens' Privacy Policy to be aware of how we treat personally identifiable information collected from children.

JournalZone.net has two distinct parts: one is a website open to the public with a private area available only to Journal Zone users via a user ID and password. The second is a password protected Internet site available only via the Journal Zone client by registered users of Journal Zone. The latter is where the student projects reside.

What information we know about you and how we use it

  • Although we may collect certain information from you as discussed below, please be reassured in knowing that we do not use any information about where you go on our site, nor do we sell, share, disclose or rent any of your personal information to third parties.
  • We do not give out your name, school name, telephone number or other personal information, unless you authorize us to do so or except where needed to deliver a product or service you ordered.
  • There are two specific times information is collected: during the order process and at the time of registration when the Journal Zone Administrator Tools are used.
  • We use an outside shipping company to ship orders and a credit card processing company to bill users for goods and services. These companies do not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes.
  • We will not share aggregated demographic information with our partners and advertisers.
  • We will not give out information that would link your profile with your actual name.
  • We will always give your school or district Journal Zone administrator the opportunity to correct your personal contact and billing information at any time by contacting LCSI.
  • We keep records in your account history of your contact with LCSI, any complaints you may have about other members' online behavior, and any reported violations of our Terms of Use that you or someone on your account may have committed.
  • LCSI's Journal Zone respects the privacy of all who visit our website, especially children. LCSI does not collect personally identifiable information without "visitors" knowledge.
  • LCSI does track the number of visitors to our site and does retain aggregate statistics about this. We use statistical information gathered from our site for product improvement.

Why we need this information

In order to use our site, a school or district Journal Zone administrator must complete the registration form. Journal Zone requires Administration Tools because the client software on each computer is configured to work with the central Journal Zone server and database. Journal Zone is organized as a collection of Projects set up by the district or school Journal Zone administrator or the assigned project manager. Setting up a project involves inputting the names (usernames, first name and optional last name) of your individual students and thus creating a student account for each of them on the central Journal Zone server and database. The information that is provided regarding the students will be available only to the administrator and project manager or those teaching partners whom they authorize directly. The usernames that the administrator chooses can be the first name or last name of users as well as a series of numbers. For security purposes, we suggest that a first name and a series of numbers or characters be chosen. The student's last name should not be used in the username. In fact, last names of students need not be used when students are added to the Journal Zone database.

Privacy Policy for Children under 13 years of age

Although children younger than 13 years of age are able to access Journal Zone.net, the order processing section and the Administration Tools are not available to them. Therefore, we do not allow children under 13 to provide any directly personally identifiable information (for example, name, address and telephone number). All such information is collected solely from teachers. Such personal information is available only to the teacher entering the child's information or other teachers under the same administration. We will never share or use such information without prior teacher or parental consent.

The only information that may appear from children is information provided by the children in response to their teachers' assignments, requests, and journals and this would only be available in the password protected Internet site.

  • While this information will generally not be personally identifiable information or third party personally identifiable information, we will maintain reasonable security procedures to protect any personally identifiable information.
  • We will ensure that no information collected from children under 13 years of age is used for any marketing or promotional purposes whatsoever, either inside or outside Journal Zone.net.
  • We will use online contact information provided to us by the child (such as an email address) if and only if the child makes a specific request to the company via mail, telephone or e-mail. We will use this information to request the name or online contact information of the child's parent or teacher. We do this in order to get the parents' or teachers' consent to respond directly to a specific request from the child and we will not recontact the child beyond the scope of that request.
  • We will not entice a child to give more personal information than is needed to participate in any LCSI sponsored activity.
  • Only the school or district administrator or the assigned project manager will have access to the student registration page (Administration Tools). The administrator or project manager will create the student's personal account. Such student registration may consist of asking the student for a nickname or user name, which the teacher will be able to track.
  • If the student is entering his/her work into the online Journal, only the user, other members of that project, the teacher and the other administrators in the school or district may see what the student has posted.

What you Should Tell your Student

  • The student should never include his/her full name, address, or telephone number in a project.
