
How is Journal Zone different?
Remember why you went into teaching? You wanted to help children
realize their potential, to show them the value of learning, and to
help them become expert learners.
Journal Zone is a tool that allows you to use an inquiry and
project-based model of learning while maintaining high expectations
and acquiring high standards of achievement.
Students learn not only the subject matter that is expected - they
also manage their learning of it. And in doing so, they acquire the
valuable skill of learning how to learn.
Journal Starters provide scaffolding to help shift students from
being novice learners to being expert learners.
Students not only have to take responsibility for their learning,
they also have a responsibility for the work and the learning of
others. Through this shared responsibility, students will better
understand both the larger content area and the diversity of learning
styles and strategies. Students will learn authentically - with
real
problems to investigate and with
genuine
teams to advise and
support them.
